Passing the Torch
December 12, 2008
Scouter Greg will be leaving us for a short period while he serves with 408 Tactical Helicopter Squadron during their tour in Afganistan. We all offer thanks for your leadership for the past two years and we look forward to your safe return next April.
Thanks for all your help
Another season has started and we are into the full swing of things. I would like to thank all of the Beavers, Cubs and Scouts and their parents who sold popcorn and also assisted with our bottle drive. Both were a resounding success this year. I would like to thank Krys, Jennifer, Greg, Barb, Jeff and Gabrielle for picking up and distributing the cases of popcorn. Scouter Gerhard also deserves recognition for organizing the bottle drive and returning the bottles to the depot. My thanks also go to the parents and youth who helped sort the bottles. Our webmaster Gord Welling has earned my gratitude for his tireless efforts to keep the Website up to date and relevant to our activities. Without this level of participation from the youth, parents, leaders and assistant leaders, we would not be able to provide the kind of programming which makes the scouting movement what it is.

New Group Commissioner
It is time for me to pass the Group Commissioner torch to another Scouter to carry. I would like everyone to welcome Jerry Velduis as the new Group Commissioner of the 2nd St. Albert Scout Group. For those of you familiar with the Tuesday Beaver Colony, you will know that the group is in great hands.
I would like to thank each and every one of my leadership team for all of the support and assistance they gave me during my tenure as GC. I wouldn’t have been able to do anything without their unique blend of skills and abilities. It has been a great pleasure watching them gain skill and confidence each year and I know I am turning over a well seasoned team to Jerry. I wish him and all of you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
