Each year, our Group celebrates our founder's birthday by holding a dinner. This year we went with a pizza feast and recognized special contributions made by our members and partners.

Families and friends of Beavers, Cubs and Scouts gathered at the St. Albert Catholic Parish Hall on Thursday evening, February 28th, to participate in our annual Baden-Powell Dinner.

Hosted by our Group Commissioner, we enjoyed pizza, soft drinks, and home-made deserts, followed by special presentations and skits performed by our youth members.

Recognizing Special Contributions !

Group Commissioner Greg Cowan presented our Sponsor, the Breakfast Optimists President Lee Weiszhaar with a Scout Popcorn gift for all members of the Optimist club. The Optimists have been especially generous this year, providing funding for our Spring Camp at Camp Maskepetoon last spring, sponsorship of the St. Albert Kub Kar Rally held at the Grandin Mall, and additional funding for our recent purchase of camping equipment including six 4-person tents, and portable camp stoves.

Area Commissioner Tony Lovell presented Scouter Krys Koniecko with a Medal of Good Service to Scouting. Group Commissioner presented Scouter Gord Welling with his Woggle for completing Woodbadge One.

Scouter Robert Reeves was presented a small gift for his work securing meeting accommodations for all of our Section regular meetings and special activities that use local community club-houses.

Group Commissioner also presented Scouter Paul Leveridge with his adult patch for his "Chief Scout's Award" that he earned many years previous as a young scout.

Area Commisioner Tony Lovell presented a special award to Cub Chris Aikins who won the competition for the Buffalo Plains Kub Kar Rally 2008 patch.

Scouter Gord Welling (Rikki) is our Group Administrator and is a Leader with our Monday "Falcon" Cub Pack. He previously served as a Scouter with Wednesday Night Beavers for four years. Gord is also the webmaster for our website and the Buffalo Plains Area website. He has a passion for the outdoors and photography and enjoys taking youngsters out on hikes and camping trips to explore nature.
