Group Bottle Drive 2008

One of Our Environmental Projects!

Group Bottle Drive

March 20, 2008 - Gord Welling

Each year, our Group sets a goal to conduct an environment project. This year we ran two bottles drives and used the funds to offset costs of our recent Tyrell Museum Trip.

Families of Beavers and Cubs that were booked to participate in the Tytell Museum Trip ran two bottle drives (Dec 15th, 2007 and Jan 5th, 2008).

We all gathered at the Muriel Martin Elementary School parking lot at 9:00 am to get our assigned areas. Armed with garbage bags and youth, parents then spread out to collect bottles from local households. Some parents collected 6 car loads of bottles.

Our thanks go to the households of Lacombe Park, Lacombe Park Estates, North Ridge, and Deer Ridge who generously donated their bottles. In a few instances, parents were able to fill an entire car from a single family's donation.

Sorting the loot !

Bottles were collected and returned to the Muriel Martin Elementary School parking lot, where we had set up a collection and sorting point. We stopped collecting bottles at noon, and it took an additional two hours to sort all of the collected bottles.

Parents, youth and leaders all chipped in to get the sorting done as quickly as possible and we had a lot of fun in the process.

Thanks Go To ..

Thanks must be extended to Scouters Jennifer Smith (Wed Beavers) and Gerhard Beckmann (Mon Cubs) who organized this event. Scouter Jennifer manned and supervised our bottle collection and sorting point. Scouter Gerhard transported most of the loads of sorted bottled to the depot and he organized getting the large sorting bags from the depot so we could run a collection and sorting station.

Finally, thanks must go to all the parents who donated their time, vehicles and fuel to run the beavers and cubs around our neighborhoods to collect the bottles.
