The St. Albert Breakfast Optimist Club (co-sponsor for 2nd St. Albert Scout Group), is pleased to extend an invitation to teenage scouting youth to participate in a public speaking competition.

2007 Topic:

Each year, Optimist Clubs in Canada, the U.S. and the Caribbean host public speaking competitions that offer an opportunity for youth to earn up to $1500 US in scholarships. This year's topic is
"My Biggest Challenge is ..."

Competition Levels

Competitions are held at four different levels starting at the Optimist club level. A top boy and top girl speaker are selected who then move on to the next highest competition level. Competitions will be held at:

• Club level in St. Albert
• Zone level in Edmonton for alllocal competitors
• Regional level In Red Deer for all provincial competitors
• District level In Saskatoon for all speakers from Alberta, Saskatchewan, Montana, and Northern Wyoming

Who can enter:

Our invitation is open to teenage youth (boys and girls usually 11 to 16 years old) from the St. Albert, Morinville, Leduc, and other Sturgeon county residents. There are also Optimist clubs in Edmonton, Sherwood Park, and Leduc that may be willing to sponsor a youth in their areas.

Contest rules are contained in the Application Form. If you have a teen youth that is interested in participating in this competition, please contact Lee Weiszhaar, email lweiszhaar@shaw.ca. We would like to receive an email on or before March 23rd, 2007. As the deadline is getting near, please pass this along to interested Scouters and friends as soon as possible.
