A trip into our city's past
May 23, 2007 - Ron de Champlain
On October 10th, 2006, 2nd St Albert Tuesday Night Beavers toured the Musee Heritage St. Albert Grain Elevator and Train Station Site.
Fall Harvest!
Located west of Meadowview Drive, the Silver No. 1 Elevator is St. Albert's oldest grain elevator constructed (September 1905-06) - and one of the few still standing on the prairies!

The train station is a replica of the original station built in 1909 and designed as it would have appeared in the 1920's after it was extended to increase the baggage handling area. Beavers were treated to a comprehensive tour of the elevators and shown how grain had been handled in the past.
They then took a journey through history by learning about the founders and the many historical landmarks that have shaped our city to what it is today.

Their final task was to create a postcard with a picture and brief explanation as to what they had learned during the evening which was then addressed/sent to a special friend.
What a great tour for our youngsters to learn about our city's past. We want to thank the staff of the usee Heritage St. Albert Grain Elevator and Train Station Site for the excellent tour.
