New Group Commissioner and Administrator

Tony Lovell, Commissioner of Buffalo Plains, announced the appointment of Greg Cowan to the position of Group Commissioner, 2nd St. Albert Scout Group. Tony also announced the appointment of Gord Welling to the position of Group Administrator.

Group Commissioner

Greg Cowan replaces Edith Hesson who has lead our Group since January 2006. Greg has been a Scouter with the Group for the past 3.5 years, serving as a Beaver leader for two years and as Akela with Monday Night Falcon Pack since September of 2005. Greg is employed as a helicopter pilot with 408 Squadron in the Canadian Military. Greg recently completed four levels of Woodbadge One (for Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Venturers) and is looking forward to his new appointment.

Group Administrator

Gord Welling assumes a position that has not been filled before. Gord has been a Scouter with the Group for 3.5 years, serving as a "Scouter" since October 2003 and the "Section Scouter" for Wednesday Night Beavers since September 2005. Gord is employed as the manager of a technical support department with a local software development company. With strong computer and administrative skills, Gord is well suited to the demands of the position.


Section Appointments

With Greg and Gord assumeing Group Committee appointments, there will be two changes at the Section level:

Both Greg and Gord will continue to help in their respective Sections until the end of the year.


Additional Info

Change is a constant aspect with Scouting. We adopt our programs to best suit the needs of our youth and fulfill the wishes of their parents. As our leaders assume appointments above the Section level, and as parents move with their youngsters from Beavers to Cubs to Scouts ... we need new volunteers. Please consider whether you can volunteer as a parent volunteer, or become a "Scouter" (one of the leaders).
