Camp Maskepetoon

To get the full story about our April 2007 Spring Camp, take a look at the story about the
fun we had in the snow!

This year, we will be holding our annual Spring Camp at Camp Maskepetoon, April 20th to 22nd. Cubs, Scouts, volunteers and leaders will start camp on Friday evening, while Beavers, their parents and leaders will join us on Saturday morning.

Camp Maskepetoon is located at Pigeon Lake south of Devon and west of Leduc. The camp has a large lodge building with a commecial kitchen and cafeteria that can seat over 140 people. We can use that building for meals and indoor activities.

Camp Program

The theme for this year is "Survivor" and the program for Saturday will consist of a round-robin of stands that involve "Surviror" type activities. All youth will be grouped together in five equal "tribes" consisting of Beavers, Cubs and Scouts. There will be an activity schedule posted at the camp. 3rd year Cubs will be with the Scouts for the weekend (sleeping in tents). In addition to the "Survivor" activities, here are some of things that the youth and parents will be participating in:

  • Cubs and Scouts may be given an opportunity be participate in outdoor hiking, camping and scouting skills to earn badges.
  • There will be combined activities for all youth and parents including a outdoor sports competition, formal camp fire, and a "Scouts Own" on Sunday morning.
  • At camp closing, we will have the 3rd year Beavers (and leaders) swip up to Cubs, 3rd year Cubs will climb up to Scouts, and 3rd Scouts will move up to Venturers.

On Sunday morning we will pack up equipment after breakfast, and then we will gather at the outdoor chapel area to participate in a "Scout's Own".

We will then enjoy some friendly games and competitions. Toward the end of the morning, we will gather together to participate in a formal moving up ceremony and a closing of the camp.
